Fun With Macro

Macro Photography

I recently aquired a macro lens and have started playing with it.  These are the first couple that I have attempted.  Lego peices make for a lot of fun.

Project 2: Week 2 - Caught in the Act

Caught in the Act

For week two of my 52 week project I decided to take photos at a local winter festival.  The photos that were shot captured a little of everything, but my favorites were those that caught kids in motion.  I hope you enjoy and feel free to add critiques in the comments section.

Photograms

Photograms

Photograms are a fun project to do.  The challenge is to make them appealing using objects and images.  The following were made with transparencies and stencils.  They were double exposed, first with the stencil negative and then with the positive.  Making sure that they were lined up correctly and patterns are not similar make these more appealing.

Cyanotypes

Cyanotypes

One of the wonderful things about living in Arizona is the ability to create cyanotypes on a regular basis.  Annually, I facilitate a photography club with children.  The first project we do is cyanotype printing.  The following are the examples made to demonstrate what was expected.

They were asked to take photos of textures that could be later incorporated into more complex cyanotypes and photograms.

They were presented with silk flowers and other shapes to utilize in their solar prints. This was in preparation for photograms the following week.

Members were challenged to incorporate a transparencey image of a pattern or texture that they enjoyed and a stencil negative.

This was done by using a transparent image and a stencil.

These projects were very simple and were a great way to teach the youth about negatives and the effeccts of light on an image.

Project 1 - Week 1: Felines

The first project that I am working on is going to be a lengthy one: take a quality photo, of varying subject matter, every week for a year.  Creating this blog was done to ensure that I stick with the project.

I shoot both film and digital.  All black and white is done with the use of a Canon Rebel G and developed in a darkroom.  All color is shot with a Canon T4i, a recent aquisition.  This week the subject matter was my cats.  They were the guinea pigs in figuring out my new camera's settings.
